Group Exhibition - ‘Ethereal’ - Berlin, Germany
SHOW ON NOW
I'm pleased to announce that five of my paintings are heading to Berlin for the "Ethereal" exhibition at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery. This is my second group exhibition with Hjellegjerde’s Berlin gallery and I look forward to travelling from Canada to be there for the pre-opening private viewing on Thursday February 20th. The show runs from February 21st to March 22nd, 2025.
The show includes works by Bianca Barandun, Kim Booker, Carri, Saskia Fleishman, Michelle Jezierski, Alessandro Keegan, Thomas Trum and myself.
‘Ethereal’ explores the evocative power of abstraction, delving into emotional states, rhythm, and the ephemeral moments that shape our experiences. For this exhibition, I've chosen to focus on those mystical moments I find at dawn and dusk, when the world seems to shift and transform. The mystical feeling the world has when the first light appears… Colours take on new hues, shadows change form and there hangs an other-worldly feeling in the air. The same magic happens in the evening, though in a richer, deeper way, "when shapes transform and a velvety richness rolls over the world.
The five pieces that have been selected for ‘Ethereal’ each capture a different facet of these moments:
UNDER THE INFLUENCE
This painting is my abstracted take on the ocean at twilight, trying to capture the "magic of those surface performances" as light and color dance across the water.
UNDER THE INFLUENCE | oil on canvas | 115cm x 107cm | 2024
INTO THE GLOAMING
Walking through the trees at dusk always challenges my perception. This piece explores those shifting shapes and the slightly uneasy, yet beautiful, feeling of that transition into darkness.
INTO THE GLOAMING | oil on canvas | 115cm x 107cm | 2024
WINE-FUELED EMBRACE
There's something about a dramatic sunset, especially with a good glass of Bordeaux, that just evokes romance. This painting is an expression of those feelings.
WINE FUELED EMBRACE | oil on canvas | 115cm x 107cm | 2024
PEONY AT DAYBREAK
I'm fascinated by the fleeting beauty of light transforming colors on a flower. This painting celebrates those precious, ephemeral moments in nature.
PEONY AT DAYBREAK | oil on canvas | 100cm x 100cm | 2024
RIVULET
Even a small creek can have the impact of a grand river if you take the time to observe it closely. This painting explores the interconnectedness of nature and its power at all scales.
RIVULET | oil on canvas | 160cm x 120cm | 2024
